When the player is hit by the insects, the swarm gradually drains their health at a slightly faster rate than the Leechmonger's leeches. Its other attacks involve summoning a horde of insects, one where it shoots from its face (left arm in the PlayStation 5 remake) or summons a large cloud around it. They are slow and can be dodged but deal high damage if caught off-guard. During combat, the Dirty Colossus' main attack is to swing its arms at the player. Even then, the Dirty Colossus still has high health. The foe cannot be attacked until the barrel around its waste is destroyed. The Dirty Colossus is a slow opponent but is very powerful both physically and defensively. The Dirty Colossus is the second boss encountered in the Valley of Defilement after the Leechmonger. It is theorized that after he died, Vito was revived as the Dirty Colossus. He was a friend of Garl Vinland who aided Maiden Astraea across the Valley of Defilement before dying at the hands of the undead. Due to the Large Sword of Moonlight found in the area above where the Slayer of Demons finds the Dirty Colossus, it is presumably the remains of Vito the Moonlight Knight. The Dirty Colossus is a golem made of the corruption from the Valley of Defilement given life by the Eroded Demon's Soul.
